Many of you already know me due to coaching for CFR in the past, but for those of you who don’t know me, I want to reintroduce myself! I have been able to start coaching again for CFR… specifically Friday early mornings.
My name is Tyler Hanewinkel. My fitness journey started when I was just a kid. I didn’t have a gym to go to because I didn’t have any money of my own to pay for a membership, so my home workouts consisted mostly of calisthenics. Later, I discovered programs like P90X and Insanity, and, a few years later, I was invited to my first WOD at Clockwork Crossfit.
I moved to Springfield in 2015 to attend Baptist Bible College. I used the school weight room to follow Clockwork’s programming, but working out alone is hard and most of my friends didn’t want to workout, so I started looking at gyms in my area.
I was looking for two things: a challenging workout program and an awesome community. The first guy I asked said “You gotta check out Crossfit Republic.” So I visited and IMMEDIATELY got hooked. I was a regular for a while then eventually got my Level-1 and became a coach after interning and working with Macy. During my first coaching season, my wife got pregnant, and I had to make the hard choice to step back from coaching because the hours I worked and the hours I coached didn’t leave a lot of time to be a dad. And even though I tried coming on Saturdays and for holiday workouts, I still got lazy, but I missed my gym fam too much.
Which brings us to now!
Since stepping back, my work schedule allows me to attend morning classes and after some refreshing, being able to coach Friday mornings! I’m so happy to be back doing what I love with the best community!
